Is Fordham worth it compared with Syracuse for college if I care about value and outcomes?

Fordham is usually the stronger value play if the cost is close, mainly because its New York City location creates more built-in access to internships, alumni networking, and employer contact during the school year. That matters for outcomes in fields like finance, consulting, media, communications, nonprofit work, and parts of business where being in the city can translate into earlier experience before graduation. Fordham also tends to be the kind of school where proximity does a lot of the work, especially for students who are proactive.

Syracuse has real strengths, but its value is often most compelling when you are entering one of the programs it is especially known for, such as communications, public affairs, architecture, or certain sports and media pipelines. In those areas, Syracuse’s alumni loyalty and school-specific reputation can carry real weight.

Another differentiator is day-to-day access to opportunity. At Fordham, internships during the semester are far easier to build into your routine because major employers are nearby, and that can lead to a stronger resume by senior year without needing to wait for summer. Syracuse can still produce excellent outcomes, but students often rely more on campus recruiting, alumni outreach, and summer experiences rather than constant in-semester exposure.

The biggest practical factor is net price. If Syracuse gave you meaningfully more aid, that can absolutely outweigh Fordham’s location advantage, especially if you would need loans.
