Michigan vs San Diego: which campus has better weather and overall campus feel?

San Diego has the better weather by a wide margin, while Michigan usually offers the more classic, energetic college-campus feel. UC San Diego gets mild temperatures most of the year, lots of sun, and very little of the long gray winter that defines Ann Arbor. Michigan, though, has a more concentrated campus town atmosphere, with the university woven directly into downtown and a stronger sense that student life shapes the whole city.

For weather alone, these places feel completely different in daily life. Ann Arbor has real seasons, which can be beautiful in fall, but winter is long, cold, and often cloudy, and that affects everything from walking to class to how often people casually spend time outdoors. UC San Diego is walkable, scenic, and modern, but its layout is more spread out and its vibe can feel less centralized. The college system gives it smaller sub-communities, which some students like, but it does not always produce the same single-campus pulse that Michigan has. In everyday terms, San Diego is easier on your mood if weather matters most, while Michigan often feels more spirited and immersive as a place to live.
