Which is generally considered more prestigious, George Washington University or Notre Dame?

Notre Dame tends to carry more overall prestige nationally, while George Washington University has strong recognition in Washington, DC and in fields tied to politics, policy, and international affairs.

In general public perception, Notre Dame has the stronger name. Its alumni network, athletics visibility, long-established identity, and national reach give it a level of recognition that extends well beyond admissions rankings. For many people, especially outside the Northeast and DC area, Notre Dame is immediately familiar in a way GW is not.

That does not mean GW lacks prestige.
