How does Bucknell compare to the University of Maryland in campus size?

The University of Maryland feels much larger in day-to-day life than Bucknell. Maryland has a bigger physical campus and a far larger student population, so walks between classes can be longer, busy areas stay crowded, and the whole place tends to feel more like a small city. Bucknell is more compact and self-contained, with a smaller student body and a campus environment that is easier to learn quickly.

At Bucknell, getting across campus is usually pretty manageable on foot, and the academic, residential, and social spaces are closely connected. That often creates a more intimate rhythm to the day: familiar faces, less foot traffic, and fewer moments where campus feels overwhelming. Its setting in Lewisburg also adds to that contained feel, since the university is a major presence in a smaller town.

At Maryland, especially in College Park, the scale is more noticeable. There are more buildings, more people moving at once, more major campus hubs, and more variation in how far apart your classes or activities might be. The upside is energy and activity almost all the time, but the tradeoff is that some parts of the day can feel hectic, especially between classes or around dining halls, student centers, and big events.
