One major difference is name recognition. UCLA is one of the best-known public universities in the country, and its reputation carries across regions, industries, and graduate programs. University of San Francisco is respected, especially in California and particularly around the Bay Area, but it does not have the same nationwide brand power.

Another differentiator is selectivity and academic perception. UCLA is widely viewed as a top-tier public research university with highly competitive admissions and strong departments across many fields. That matters because people often use those signals, fairly or not, when judging prestige.
