Wisconsin vs. Fordham for business: which is the better choice overall?

I’m a high school senior trying to narrow down my college list, and these two schools keep coming up for me. I’m interested in business and want a place that will set me up well for internships and a solid career after college.

I know both have business programs, but I’m trying to figure out which one is generally the stronger option overall for a business major.

For business, Wisconsin tends to be the stronger overall option for most students, especially if you want a widely respected public-university business school, a large alumni network, and a full campus experience. Fordham can make a lot of sense if you specifically want to build your college and internship life around New York City from the start.

Wisconsin fits the student who wants a more established, high-volume business ecosystem on campus. Madison offers the classic Big Ten setting, a very active student life, and a business program that is especially well known in areas like finance, accounting, marketing, real estate, and supply chain-related paths. Its size can be a real advantage for business because there are many student organizations, recruiting events, and alumni touchpoints, though you do need to be proactive in a larger environment.

Fordham suits the student who wants business education tied closely to an urban setting and is excited by the idea of internships during the school year. The Gabelli School of Business has a solid reputation, and being in New York can be genuinely valuable for finance, marketing, media-adjacent business roles, and networking.

In career terms, Wisconsin often gives you the broader platform and stronger all-around business-school brand, while Fordham gives you more immediate proximity to employers in NYC. A student who is independent, energized by city life, and ready to hustle for internships early may get a lot out of Fordham. A student who wants a bigger-name business program with more traditional campus energy and very strong long-term alumni reach will often find Wisconsin more compelling.

So if the question is which is the stronger business choice in the abstract, Wisconsin usually has the edge. Fordham becomes especially attractive when New York location is not just a bonus, but a central part of what you want from college and your career launch.
