Purdue, though, has a very recognizable national reputation tied to engineering, aviation, computing, and large-scale research.

Its identity is unusually clear, and that kind of clarity matters because employers often know exactly what Purdue is known for.

Wake Forest has a different kind of prestige signal. It is often seen as a high-status private university with strong placement into finance, consulting, business, pre-med, and other professional paths, especially on the East Coast and in the South. To people outside academia, the private-school label and smaller student body can make Wake feel more exclusive.

Geography also shapes perception. Wake Forest is especially well regarded in certain professional and social circles in the Southeast, while Purdue’s name travels extremely well nationally because of the scale of its programs and its long-established strengths in STEM. So if by prestige you mean broad social polish, Wake probably has the edge; if you mean employer respect in technical fields, Purdue may actually carry more weight.
