Clemson or UNC: which is better for biology as an undergraduate?

If your main interest is biology as a launching point to research or pre-med, UNC usually has the edge. The biology department is large and established, and students can tap into opportunities connected to UNC’s medical school, public health resources, and surrounding research institutions.

Clemson can still be a very good place to study biology, especially if you want a traditional campus environment with strong school spirit and a somewhat more self-contained college experience. Some students prefer that setting, and at a school like Clemson it can be easier to feel anchored in one community rather than split between campus and a larger research corridor. For pre-med students, you can absolutely build a solid record there, but you may need to be more intentional about seeking out certain research or clinical experiences.
