Is Lehigh or Wake Forest considered more prestigious for college admissions and general reputation?

I’m trying to compare Lehigh and Wake Forest and keep seeing both mentioned as strong schools, but in different ways. I’m a junior looking at them for my college list and want to understand how people generally compare their overall prestige and reputation.

I know fit matters too, but I’m mostly trying to figure out how they are viewed by students, parents, and employers.

Wake Forest is usually viewed as having the stronger overall national prestige, while Lehigh has a very solid reputation that can be especially strong in certain fields and regions. Among students and parents, Wake often carries more of the “selective private university” image, and its name tends to travel a bit more broadly across the country. Lehigh is well respected too, but its reputation is often more concentrated in engineering, business, and the Northeast.

For a student who cares about broad brand recognition in college admissions conversations, Wake Forest often comes up as the school with slightly more general cachet. It has a polished national reputation, a strong undergraduate focus, and visibility that extends beyond one academic niche. People often associate it with a classic private-school experience, strong academics, and an active campus culture.

Lehigh tends to stand out more for the student who wants a school known for technical and pre-professional strength. Its engineering and business programs are especially well regarded, and employers in those areas often know Lehigh very well. In some circles, especially in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, Lehigh’s name can carry as much or more weight than Wake’s depending on the industry.

If you are asking how they are perceived in a broad, non-specialist way, Wake Forest likely has the edge. If you are asking how they are viewed by employers in finance, business, or engineering-related spaces, Lehigh can be just as impressive and sometimes more relevant. So the prestige gap is real but not huge, and the more important distinction is that Wake’s reputation is more all-around and national, while Lehigh’s can be more field-specific and regionally concentrated.
