Is Lehigh or Syracuse better for communication majors?

Syracuse gives you a much larger, more established communications ecosystem through the Newhouse School, with stronger industry visibility, more specialized coursework, and a wider media network. Lehigh offers a smaller, more intimate academic setting where communication can be combined more easily with business, technology, or entrepreneurship, but it does not have the same standalone reputation in communications.

For a student specifically focused on communication, Syracuse tends to be the stronger option. Newhouse is one of the best-known communications schools in the country, and that matters because the school’s alumni presence, internship pipelines, student media, and employer recognition are unusually strong in fields like media, public relations, advertising, journalism, and broadcast-related work. If you want a campus where communication is a central institutional strength rather than one solid major among many, Syracuse has a real edge.

Lehigh can still make sense if your interests are less purely media-centered and more interdisciplinary. Its communication program can work well for students who want to connect communication with marketing, analytics, organizational leadership, or other pre-professional paths in a smaller university environment. You may also get closer faculty access and a less sprawling program structure there.

But on the core question of which school is stronger overall for communication, Syracuse is the clearer answer. Unless you have a strong preference for Lehigh’s size, campus feel, or cross-disciplinary setup, Syracuse is the school that carries more weight in this field.
