Is Villanova or Fordham worth the cost for an undergraduate degree?

Villanova tends to be easier to justify at a high price than Fordham for many undergrads, especially if you want a campus-centered experience with strong alumni loyalty and solid outcomes across several majors. Villanova has a notably cohesive undergraduate culture, a strong national reputation in business and nursing, and an alumni network that is often described as very engaged. Fordham offers real advantages too, but its value proposition depends more heavily on whether you will use its New York City location in a very intentional way.

One big differentiator is undergraduate environment. Villanova is much more of a traditional residential campus, and that matters because students often get a tighter community, more school identity, and a more unified experience over four years. For many families paying private-school prices, that kind of consistency can make the cost feel more worthwhile than a school where the experience is more spread out by campus, commuting patterns, or city life.

Another is how each school converts reputation into opportunity. Villanova has especially strong name recognition with employers in the Mid-Atlantic and a reputation for producing polished, career-ready graduates, particularly through the business school. Fordham has excellent access to internships and networking through New York, but that benefit is not automatic. You usually need to be proactive from the start to turn the city into a real advantage, so the return can vary more from student to student.

A third difference is where the money is going. With Fordham, part of what you are paying for is location and access. With Villanova, more of the value is tied to the undergraduate community itself. If cost is a central concern and both are coming in near full price, Villanova more often feels like the cleaner investment. If Fordham is meaningfully cheaper, or if you are set on fields where NYC access is unusually valuable, that can change the equation.
