Wisconsin fits students who like the resources and energy of a big flagship university and are comfortable being more proactive. The Wisconsin School of Business has a respected accounting program, solid employer recruiting, and access to a large alumni base, especially in the Midwest. It can be an excellent place to prepare for Big Four or regional firm recruiting, particularly for someone who wants a broader state-school environment with lots of campus options beyond the business school.

If Wisconsin is significantly cheaper, that changes the equation quite a bit, because accounting is a field where limiting debt can matter and Wisconsin still gives you a credible path to strong internships and job placement. The real divide is less about whether one can get you into accounting and more about whether you want Notre Dame’s high-touch private-school network or Wisconsin’s larger, more self-directed business ecosystem.
