For day-to-day campus experience, William & Mary usually feels more close-knit and rooted in campus life, while the University of Michigan feels bigger, busier, and more like living in a full college city. William & Mary’s campus is compact, walkable, and closely tied to a smaller town atmosphere in Williamsburg. Michigan, by contrast, has multiple campus areas, and Ann Arbor plays a major role in everyday student life.

One major difference is physical scale. At William & Mary, it is easier to run into the same people, get across campus quickly, and feel like most of your academic and social world is connected in one place. The smaller size can make the environment feel personal and familiar.
