Is Clemson or Notre Dame better for finance careers?

I’m a high school junior trying to narrow down my college list, and I’m interested in finance as a career path. Both Clemson and Notre Dame are on my radar, but I’m having trouble figuring out which one would be the stronger choice for breaking into finance after college.

I’m mostly thinking about things like recruiting, alumni connections, and how well each school is viewed in the finance world.

For finance careers, Notre Dame is the stronger option for most students. It has a much deeper pipeline into finance recruiting, a particularly powerful alumni network in business, and stronger placement into competitive paths like investment banking, sales and trading, and top finance rotational programs. Clemson can still work well, especially for corporate finance or regional business roles, but it is not viewed the same way in high-finance recruiting.

Notre Dame makes the most sense for a student who wants broad national access and is aiming high within finance. Its Mendoza College of Business is well known, and Notre Dame alumni are notably active in helping students break into firms in Chicago, New York, and other major markets. That matters because finance recruiting is often relationship-driven, and Notre Dame tends to offer more built-in credibility with employers.

Clemson fits better for a student who wants a strong college experience in a large public university setting and is open to a wider range of business outcomes, especially in the Southeast. For corporate finance, commercial banking, financial planning, or roles tied to large companies in the region, Clemson can absolutely lead to solid results.

If you are specifically thinking about investment banking, private equity later on, or highly selective front-office finance roles, Notre Dame gives you a clearer runway. If your goals are broader and cost, campus culture, or geographic preference matter more, Clemson can still be a smart choice, just with a less direct path into the most competitive parts of finance.
