Is Indiana University or Miami University better for finance careers?

I’m a high school junior trying to narrow down my college list, and I’m interested in finance. Both Indiana and Miami seem like strong options, but I’m not sure which one has better outcomes for getting internships, networking, and landing a finance job after graduation.

I’m mostly trying to understand which school has the stronger reputation for finance careers overall.

The biggest practical tradeoff is this: Indiana gives you access to a larger, more nationally visible finance pipeline, while Miami offers a smaller, more personal environment with solid outcomes but less overall reach. For finance specifically, Indiana’s Kelley School of Business is the key difference. Kelley has a very strong reputation with employers, a large alumni network in business, and well-known undergraduate opportunities in areas like investment banking, workshops, and career preparation.

Miami University is respected and can absolutely lead to finance jobs, especially if you do well academically and use its alumni network aggressively. But in head-to-head terms, Indiana is the school more people in finance will recognize immediately, especially because Kelley is a distinct business school with deeper recruiting infrastructure. That tends to matter for internships and early-career placement, particularly in more competitive finance paths.

For internships and networking, Indiana usually has the edge because of scale and specialization. Larger employer engagement, more finance-focused student organizations, and Kelley’s structured career resources can make it easier to find on-campus recruiting channels and alumni connections. At Miami, students can still build strong results, but it often takes more self-directed effort and relationship-building rather than plugging into a pipeline with the same breadth.

If your main question is which school has the stronger reputation for finance careers overall, Indiana is the clearer answer. Miami is a good option and may appeal more if you want a somewhat smaller, more contained college experience, but for finance brand name, recruiting depth, and national employer recognition, Indiana stands out more.
