Michigan probably has the edge on school spirit. The football culture in Ann Arbor is unusually central to campus life, game days take over the town, and the visual identity is incredibly consistent with students and alumni wearing maize and blue everywhere. It also helps that Michigan’s traditions, from the marching band to the Big House atmosphere, feel woven into the everyday student experience in a very visible way.

Students tend to rally hard around a shared set of traditions, and because Ann Arbor revolves so much around the university, that pride is hard to miss even outside athletics.

UT Austin absolutely has real spirit too, especially around football, the Longhorn brand, and big rivalry moments. Students wear burnt orange constantly, and Texas pride is strong, but Austin is also a large, busy city with a lot happening beyond campus. That can make school spirit feel a little more distributed rather than completely dominating the local atmosphere.
