The biggest practical tradeoff is access versus environment: NYU puts you directly in New York’s accounting and finance recruiting market every semester, while Villanova offers a more traditional campus experience with strong business recruiting, especially in the Northeast. For accounting specifically, NYU Stern carries broader national name recognition in finance and professional services, and being in Manhattan makes internships during the school year much easier. Villanova’s business school is well respected too, with a strong alumni network, but its recruiting footprint is a bit more regional.

If your goal is Big Four accounting, advisory, or eventually a path that could branch into finance, NYU has the edge on sheer proximity to firms, employer visibility, and volume of opportunities. Stern students benefit from frequent networking, easier access to part-time internships, and a brand that travels especially well in major business markets. That matters in accounting because internships and early recruiting often shape your first full-time offer.

Villanova is still a very credible choice for undergrad accounting. Employers know the school, and the business program has a strong reputation for producing polished, career-ready students. In some cases, students there may get more of a close-knit campus culture and a less intense day-to-day environment than at NYU, which some people prefer.

For undergrad accounting alone, I’d give NYU the advantage, particularly if cost is manageable and you want the strongest combination of accounting reputation, recruiting access, and flexibility for future career options. I’d lean Villanova only if you strongly value the residential campus experience or if the financial difference is significant, since accounting outcomes depend heavily on graduating with minimal debt too.
