Clemson or Michigan State for finance careers: which has better job prospects?

I’m trying to choose between Clemson and Michigan State, and I want to study finance or something business-related. I’m mainly thinking about which school would give me better chances for internships, recruiting, and landing a good finance job after college.

I know both schools have strong reputations in different areas, but I’m not sure how they compare specifically for finance careers.

The biggest practical tradeoff is business-school access and recruiting depth versus campus environment and overall vibe. For finance specifically, Michigan State has the clearer edge because its business infrastructure is more established, the Broad College of Business is a major draw for employers, and being in the Big Ten alumni network helps with internships and entry-level hiring. Clemson can still lead to solid outcomes, but it is better known nationally for areas like engineering, and finance recruiting is not usually the first thing people associate with it.

If your goal is internships during college and a wider set of finance pathways, Michigan State is more likely to give you stronger on-campus recruiting and more classmates aiming for accounting, corporate finance, banking, consulting, and related fields. That matters because finance hiring is often very network-driven, and schools with larger business pipelines tend to create more repeated employer relationships. MSU also benefits from proximity to Detroit and Chicago connections, which can help for internships and full-time roles.

Clemson has a strong alumni base and good name recognition, especially in the Southeast, so it can work well for corporate finance, financial planning, commercial banking, and business roles in that region.

Between the two, Michigan State is the safer bet for finance careers.
