Harvey Mudd or Georgia Tech for robotics: which is better for an undergraduate robotics student?
I’m a high school junior trying to narrow down schools for robotics, and these two keep coming up for me. I know Harvey Mudd is smaller and Georgia Tech is a huge engineering school, but I’m not sure how that affects the robotics experience as an undergrad.
I’m mostly trying to understand which one would give a stronger robotics education and more hands-on opportunities without getting buried in the size of the school.

The biggest practical tradeoff is scale versus intimacy. Georgia Tech gives you a much larger robotics ecosystem, with more faculty, labs, course options, and industry connections in a major engineering setting, while Harvey Mudd gives undergraduates much closer access to professors, small classes, and a campus culture where hands-on STEM work is central from the start. For robotics specifically, that means Georgia Tech usually offers broader specialization, but Harvey Mudd often makes it easier to be known personally and get meaningful undergraduate responsibility quickly.

If the question is which is better for an undergraduate who wants close mentorship, less competition for faculty attention, and a high chance of doing substantial hands-on work early, Harvey Mudd is very compelling. For most students set specifically on robotics as a field, Georgia Tech has the advantage, but for someone prioritizing undergraduate access over scale, Harvey Mudd can absolutely be the better choice.
