For day-to-day comfort and weather, the University of San Diego has the edge, while Michigan offers the bigger, more electric campus life. San Diego’s climate is mild and sunny most of the year, and USD’s hilltop campus is known for its Spanish-style architecture, palm trees, and easy access to the city and coast. Michigan, by contrast, gives you a classic large-college environment with much harsher winters and a much busier student atmosphere.

Weather is the clearest separator. Ann Arbor gets cold, snowy winters and long stretches of gray weather, so daily life there means real seasonal changes, heavy coats, and a campus rhythm that shifts a lot between fall and winter. USD is much more consistent, with warm temperatures and outdoor-friendly conditions through most of the school year, which tends to make everyday walking around campus, studying outside, and socializing feel easier.

Campus life feels very different because of size and energy. Michigan has a huge undergraduate population, major school spirit, Big Ten sports, packed student events, and a college-town atmosphere where the university strongly shapes the city. USD is more contained, polished, and relaxed. Its campus is beautiful and residential, and the social scene is usually less intense and less centered on giant traditions or large-scale athletics. That can be a plus if you want a calmer environment with smaller-school community feel, but it will not have the same constant buzz or scale as Michigan.
