Columbia carries more prestige overall to both employers and graduate schools. It has a stronger national and international name, is one of the Ivy League universities, and is typically viewed as more selective and more elite across most fields. On a resume or grad school application, Columbia’s brand will usually draw more immediate recognition than the University of Washington.

That said, University of Washington has a very strong reputation in specific areas, especially computer science, engineering, medicine, public health, and research.
