Is Tulane or UVA better for finance recruiting and career opportunities?
I’m a high school senior trying to narrow down my college list, and both Tulane and UVA are on it. I know they have different vibes, but I’m mostly thinking about which one is stronger for finance recruiting and getting into good internships or jobs after graduation.
I’m looking at this from the perspective of someone who wants to study finance and eventually work in the field, so I’m trying to understand which school has the better overall reputation and pipeline for that path.

The biggest practical tradeoff is this: UVA gives you a much stronger built-in pipeline to high-level finance recruiting, while Tulane can still work well but usually requires more self-direction and targeted networking. UVA’s McIntire School of Commerce is one of the most established undergraduate business programs in the country, and it has especially strong placement into investment banking, consulting, and other selective finance roles. Tulane has solid business offerings and an engaged alumni base, but its finance recruiting footprint is not as deep or as nationally dominant as UVA’s.
For finance specifically, UVA has the clearer edge in both reputation and employer access. Firms that recruit heavily for analyst roles tend to know UVA well, and the school has a stronger on-campus ecosystem for students aiming at banking, asset management, corporate finance, and related paths. The alumni network in finance is also a real advantage, especially in East Coast hubs like New York, Charlotte, and Washington.
Tulane offers good opportunities, especially for students who are proactive and interested in combining finance with a distinctive college experience in New Orleans. Its business school can open doors, and some students do land strong roles, but the path is less automatic. You would likely need to network earlier, be more intentional about internships, and rely more on personal hustle than a broad institutional pipeline.
If your main question is which school is better for finance recruiting and long-term career opportunities in that field, UVA is the stronger choice. It carries more weight with finance employers and has a more established recruiting structure.
