UCLA works better for students who are willing to tolerate a tougher commute because they specifically want what UCLA offers. Westwood traffic is a real factor, parking demand is heavy, and getting to campus can be frustrating depending on where you live and what time your classes start. Once you are there, the campus is walkable, but the challenge is often the trip in and the logistics of parking rather than crossing campus.
