Is the University of Michigan or University of Richmond better for business majors?

For business, the University of Michigan has the stronger overall edge. Michigan’s Ross School of Business has a bigger national presence, deeper recruiting pipelines, and broader name recognition with employers across finance, consulting, tech, and corporate roles. If your main priority is maximizing access to internships and post-grad options at scale, Michigan is the more powerful platform.

One major difference is employer access. Ross draws a very large range of recruiters and has a long-established on-campus recruiting ecosystem, especially for highly structured paths like investment banking, consulting, brand management, and big-company finance roles. That scale matters because it usually means more companies visiting campus, more alumni in major firms, and more established student clubs feeding into internships.

Another differentiator is the business school itself. Ross is one of the most visible undergraduate business programs in the country, and that visibility tends to travel well outside its region. Richmond’s Robins School of Business is well regarded and can offer closer faculty attention and a more personal undergraduate environment, but it does not carry the same breadth of national pull in business recruiting.

The internship picture also leans Michigan because of its alumni network and reach into multiple major job markets. Richmond can be very effective, especially for students who want a smaller private-school setting and may be interested in East Coast opportunities, but Michigan usually opens more doors across more industries and cities. For a student focused first and foremost on business strength and career outcomes, Michigan comes out ahead.
