Is Clemson or Boston University better for finance careers?

Boston University is the stronger option for finance careers. Its Questrom School of Business has a more direct pipeline into finance recruiting, and being in Boston gives you much easier access to internships during the school year at investment firms, asset managers, banks, and corporate finance offices. That combination matters because finance hiring is heavily shaped by proximity, alumni access, and internship timing.

The biggest differentiator is location. At BU, students can realistically intern part time during the semester in Boston, where there is a real concentration of financial services, consulting, and corporate headquarters. Clemson has solid career outcomes, but it is not sitting in a major finance hub, so students usually depend more on summer internships and broader regional recruiting rather than frequent in-semester access.

A third difference is the type of finance path you are targeting. BU is better positioned for traditional finance-track roles such as banking, investment research, corporate finance, fintech, and buy-side adjacent work. Clemson can still work well, particularly for corporate finance, commercial banking, financial planning, or roles tied to the Southeast, but it usually requires more self-directed networking if your goal is highly competitive finance recruiting.
