Northeastern vs BU for career outcomes: which is better for internships and job placement?

The biggest practical tradeoff is structured work experience versus a more traditional university path. Northeastern has a built-in advantage for internships and early job exposure because its co-op system is central to the undergraduate experience, and many students graduate with substantial full-time work experience already on their resume. BU also places students into strong internships and jobs, especially in Boston-based industries, but it does not organize career preparation around co-op in the same way.

For internships and career launch, Northeastern usually has the clearer edge. Its co-op model is not just an extra opportunity but a major part of how students move through college, and that tends to make employer connections, resume-building, and practical experience more systematic. In fields where employers value proven workplace experience right away, that can matter a lot.

BU is still very strong for job placement, especially because of its academic reputation, location in Boston, and access to major hospitals, firms, media organizations, nonprofits, and research settings. Students who are proactive can absolutely build an excellent internship record there. The difference is that at BU, students often need to drive that process more independently, while at Northeastern the institution is more explicitly set up to funnel students into work opportunities.
