UCSB sits right on the coast in Isla Vista, and students can walk or bike to the water in minutes from campus or nearby housing. At UCLA, the beach is definitely part of student life for some people, but it is not woven into the campus experience in the same immediate way because Westwood is inland and getting to Santa Monica or Venice usually takes a car, bus, rideshare, or extra planning.

UCSB fits the student who wants the beach to feel routine rather than occasional. You can study with the ocean nearby, catch sunset at the bluffs, surf between classes if your schedule allows, and be in a town where student life and beach culture overlap a lot.
