University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign vs MIT for robotics: which is better overall?
I’m trying to decide between these two schools and robotics is one of my main interests. I know both have strong engineering programs, but I’m not sure how they compare specifically for robotics opportunities, research, and preparation for the field.

For robotics overall, MIT has the stronger name recognition, denser robotics ecosystem, and broader access to cutting-edge research across mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, and AI. UIUC is still excellent, especially for a student who wants a big research university with outstanding engineering depth, strong computing, and more room to explore across systems, controls, autonomy, and embedded work.
