Should I choose UConn or University of Washington for a biology major?

University of Washington has the edge for biology if your priority is depth in the major and access to high-level life sciences research.

One concrete difference is the research environment. At UW, biology students benefit from being in Seattle near UW Medicine and a dense biotech and health research corridor. That matters because research openings are not limited to one department, so students can branch into molecular biology, immunology, bioengineering, or public health more easily. UConn has real strengths too, especially through its health center and undergraduate science training.

Another differentiator is the scale and specialization of science offerings. UW tends to offer more pathways across the biological sciences, including strong overlap with marine biology, environmental science, microbiology, and computational areas. That can be especially useful if your interests shift after taking intro courses. UConn’s biology program is solid and can be a very good place to build close relationships with faculty, but UW usually offers a wider scientific menu.

For pre-med specifically, both can get you there, but UW gives you stronger proximity to major hospitals, public health work, and clinical research settings. The main reason to lean UConn instead would be if you expect a smaller-feeling campus experience, easier access to professors early on, or significantly lower cost. If price is close, UW is the more compelling choice for biology.
