It may not have the same broad cultural prestige as NYU, but it has substantial credibility and a strong University of California identity.

For future jobs, prestige usually matters less than your major, experience, grades, and internships. A student at NYU in finance or media may benefit more from school name and location, while a student at UC Davis in science, engineering, environmental work, or pre-health can do extremely well with the school’s research opportunities and academic standing. So if you mean raw overall brand prestige, NYU is more often perceived that way, while UC Davis is better described as deeply respected and especially strong in certain academic areas.
