How do Northeastern and Georgetown compare in admissions selectivity?

The biggest practical difference is that Georgetown is typically viewed as the more difficult admit overall, while Northeastern can feel unpredictable because of how many applicants it gets and how heavily it manages enrollment across different programs and entry pathways. Both are highly competitive, but Georgetown tends to sit in a more consistently elite-selective category. Northeastern is still hard to get into, just in a different way: many strong applicants get denied or redirected, which makes it seem especially volatile.

In broad terms, Georgetown is the school that usually requires a stronger overall academic and extracurricular profile to be clearly competitive. It has a long-established reputation for very selective admission. Its applicant pool also tends to include a high concentration of students with very polished academic records and strong national or leadership-oriented activities.

Northeastern has become much more selective over time, but part of the reason people have mixed impressions is that its process can be harder to read. The school gets enormous application volume, uses different rounds and programs, and may admit students through options other than the traditional first-year Boston entry. So while it is absolutely not an easy admit, it does not usually carry the same across-the-board level of selectivity prestige as Georgetown.
