UC Berkeley vs Brandeis for biology: which is better for an undergraduate pre-med student?

The biggest practical tradeoff is scale versus support. UC Berkeley gives you a huge biology ecosystem, a famous research environment, and access to a major medical and biotech region, but it can feel large, fast, and more competitive to navigate. Brandeis is smaller, more personal, and usually easier to access for advising and faculty interaction, which matters a lot for pre-med students trying to protect both GPA and sanity.

For undergraduate pre-med, Brandeis often has the smoother day-to-day experience. Smaller classes, closer contact with professors, and a campus culture built around undergraduates can make it easier to get recommendations, find mentoring, and avoid feeling like you have to fight for every resource.
