James Madison University vs Temple University for marketing: which is better for career opportunities?

I’m trying to decide between James Madison and Temple for marketing and want to make sure I choose the school that gives me the best path into the field. I’m interested in internships, networking, and getting a job after graduation.

I know both schools have different locations and student cultures, but I’m mostly trying to figure out which one has the stronger marketing program overall for career opportunities.

For marketing specifically, Temple probably gives you the stronger career setup if you want earlier access to internships, employer networking, and a large-city job market while you are still in school. Its Fox School of Business has a long-established business presence in Philadelphia, and that matters in marketing because so much recruiting comes through local agencies, corporate offices, media companies, healthcare systems, and consumer brands. Being in the city also makes part-time internships during the semester much more realistic.

Temple tends to fit the student who wants to build experience quickly through proximity. If you are the kind of person who will actively use a major metro area, attend employer events, commute to internships, and make connections beyond campus, Temple gives you more raw opportunity. For a field like marketing, where experience and networking often matter as much as coursework, that ecosystem can translate well into job options after graduation.

JMU makes more sense for a student who wants a more traditional campus environment, a strong undergraduate community, and a business school experience that may feel more personal and less city-driven. The College of Business is well regarded, and JMU students do land solid internships and jobs, especially if they are organized and use recruiting resources well. But compared with Temple, you are less plugged into a major urban market on a day-to-day basis, so internship access during the academic year may take more planning.

If your main goal is marketing career momentum and you are choosing based on professional access, Temple has the edge. If you know you will thrive better in a classic college setting and still push hard for internships, JMU can absolutely work, but Temple is the one I would lean toward for marketing opportunities specifically.
