Is UCLA or Fordham better for New York recruiting?

For New York recruiting specifically, Fordham has the clearer edge. It is based in New York City, has a very deep alumni network in the city, and gives students easier access to in-semester internships, employer events, and informational interviews without needing to travel across the country. UCLA is a stronger national name overall, but its recruiting gravity is much more concentrated in California and the West Coast.

Fordham makes the most sense for a student who wants New York to be part of college life from day one. Being in the city matters because a lot of hiring in finance, media, communications, nonprofits, and business happens through repeated local exposure: internships during the semester, alumni introductions, and showing up to employer panels or coffee chats. For New York employers, Fordham is a familiar and very visible school, especially in fields where location and networking are central.

UCLA fits a student who wants a broader national brand and is open to building a path to New York more intentionally. A UCLA student can absolutely land in New York after graduation, especially in fields like consulting, finance, tech, media, and entertainment-adjacent work, but it usually takes more deliberate outreach, summer internship planning, and often a willingness to spend summers or post-grad time on the East Coast. New York employers will know UCLA, but they are less likely to recruit there with the same built-in local pipeline they have with schools in or near the city.
