Which school offers better internship opportunities, Johns Hopkins or Georgetown?

Georgetown usually offers the stronger internship access, especially during the school year. Its Washington, DC location puts students close to federal agencies, think tanks, NGOs, embassies, consulting firms, media organizations, and Capitol Hill offices, and that proximity makes part-time internships much easier to fit into a normal semester. Georgetown also has a long-established culture of students interning while classes are in session, particularly in politics, international relations, policy, business, and public service.

Location is the biggest separator. At Georgetown, students can often commute quickly to internships in downtown DC, which matters because many semester internships depend on being able to work a few afternoons a week without major travel.

Johns Hopkins has excellent opportunities too, but they are more concentrated in specific fields. In Baltimore, Hopkins students have especially strong access to internships and research in medicine, public health, biotech, hospitals, and science-related work, and the university’s ties to major medical and research institutions are a real advantage. For students focused on lab work, health policy, biomedical engineering, or clinical research, Hopkins can be exceptionally strong.

The school networks also differ in feel. Georgetown’s alumni presence is especially visible in DC-facing industries, where networking and institutional connections often translate into recurring internship channels. Hopkins has a powerful network as well, but its internship ecosystem is often more research- and health-oriented than broadly spread across government and policy sectors.

So in terms of sheer volume and convenience of internships available during the academic year, Georgetown has the edge. Hopkins is highly competitive on internships tied to science, health, and research, but Georgetown tends to provide more day-to-day access across a wider range of internship-heavy fields.
