That matters most if you already think accounting is your likely path and want a school where that major is especially prominent.

Indiana’s Kelley School of Business is very well known among employers, and its undergraduate accounting program has long had a strong reputation. Kelley also has a large alumni network and established recruiting channels, which can be especially useful for internships in public accounting, corporate accounting, and related finance roles. If your goal is to maximize structured career preparation in accounting, Indiana is often the safer bet.

Wisconsin’s Wisconsin School of Business is also respected and can absolutely lead to strong accounting outcomes, especially in the Midwest. You would still have access to solid recruiting, a recognizable university name, and a broad campus experience. But in head-to-head comparisons for accounting specifically, Indiana usually stands out more because the business school itself is such a central draw and accounting is one of its most visible strengths.

One thing to pay attention to is how each school handles direct entry to business and accounting coursework, because that affects how quickly you can get into the classes, advising, and student organizations that matter for recruiting. Also compare where graduates tend to work, which firms recruit on campus, and whether you prefer Madison or Bloomington as a place to spend four years.

If accounting is your priority rather than just a possible option, Indiana is the stronger pick here. Wisconsin is still a very good choice, but for accounting reputation and career setup, Indiana has the advantage.
