Is UChicago or Brown better for internships?

UChicago has the edge for internships and employer access, mainly because of its location in Chicago and how closely that connects students to in-semester opportunities. Being in a major city makes it easier to intern during the academic year, attend employer events, and build contacts without needing to leave campus for a different metro area.

Chicago itself is a real advantage here. UChicago students can reach firms, hospitals, startups, nonprofits, and major corporate offices during the school year in a way Brown students usually cannot replicate as easily in Providence. That matters because many students build their resume through part-time internships, research assistant roles, and networking before summer recruiting even peaks.

If your idea of internship access includes on-campus recruiting, employer info sessions, and a dense local professional market, UChicago is usually the more convenient platform.

Brown is still very strong, especially for students who are self-directed and interested in tech, startups, humanities-related work, public service, or interdisciplinary paths. Brown benefits from an active alumni network, but Providence itself offers a smaller local internship market during the school year. That means Brown students often rely a bit more on summer internships, alumni outreach, and opportunities outside the immediate area.

One important nuance is that Brown’s open curriculum can make it easier to shape your schedule around internships, independent projects, or unusual career combinations. So if you are highly proactive, Brown can absolutely open excellent doors. But on the narrower question of day-to-day internship access and employer proximity, UChicago is the more favorable setup.
