Tufts vs NYU for business: which is the better choice for an undergraduate business career?

NYU is the stronger pick for an undergraduate business path. Its business ecosystem is more direct and more visible at the undergraduate level, especially through Stern, its location in Manhattan, and the sheer volume of finance, consulting, media, tech, and startup recruiting that happens nearby.

The biggest difference is access. NYU students can pursue internships during the academic year much more easily because major employers are right there in New York City. That matters in business, where early internships, networking, and alumni connections often shape your first job more than classroom learning alone.

The second difference is brand alignment. When employers think of undergraduate business training, NYU has a clearer and more established identity. Stern in particular is widely recognized for finance and consulting, and even outside Stern, NYU’s proximity to industry creates a more business-saturated environment than Tufts typically offers.

Tufts is an excellent university, but it is not primarily known as an undergraduate business school. Its strengths lean more toward liberal arts, international affairs, engineering, and interdisciplinary study. That can still lead to business careers, especially in consulting or entrepreneurship, but the pipeline is less built-in and less concentrated than at NYU.

For overall undergraduate experience, this depends on what kind of college life you want.
