Should I choose Alabama or NC State for finance?

I’m trying to decide between Alabama and NC State for college, and finance is the major I’m most interested in. Both seem like solid public schools, but I’m not sure which one would give me a better overall path for a finance career.

I’m mainly looking at things like recruiting, internship opportunities, alumni connections, and how strong the finance program is in practice.

For finance, NC State usually gives a stronger practical runway if you want easier access to internships during the school year and connections to a major business region. Its location in Raleigh matters a lot: you are near banks, corporate finance offices, fintech firms, and the Research Triangle job market, which makes part-time internships and networking more realistic while enrolled.

NC State tends to fit the student who wants a more career-linked environment from the start. If you can see yourself building experience during fall or spring semesters, joining business clubs tied to employer events, and tapping into Raleigh-based opportunities, that setup is hard to ignore. For corporate finance, commercial banking, financial analysis, and roles at large regional employers, NC State is especially well positioned.

Alabama can make sense for the student who wants a bigger campus experience, a very large alumni network, and in many cases a lower net cost, especially if merit aid is involved. That alumni base is real and helpful across the South, and Alabama places students into finance-related roles, particularly when they are proactive about internships and networking.

If you are aiming at traditional finance recruiting with maximum day-to-day proximity to employers, I would lean NC State. If Alabama is significantly cheaper for you and you are comfortable hustling for internships, traveling for recruiting, and using a broad alumni network, it can still be a smart choice. Between these two, NC State has the cleaner advantage for finance in practice, while Alabama becomes more compelling when cost and campus experience carry more weight.
