Is Duke or Yale better for consulting recruiting and placement?

For undergraduate consulting recruiting, both Duke and Yale place very well, but Duke tends to have the more visible, structured consulting pipeline on campus. Yale absolutely gets students into top consulting firms too, but the route can feel a bit less centered on consulting as a default destination.

Duke is often the better environment for a student who wants consulting to be a major goal from early on. The campus has a strong business-adjacent ecosystem, active consulting clubs, and a student culture where recruiting for firms like McKinsey, Bain, BCG, and other major employers is highly normalized. That matters because interview prep, case practice, referrals, and older students who know the process are all easier to access when many classmates are pursuing the same thing.

Yale fits the student who wants elite access without being surrounded by as much pre-professional intensity. The Yale name carries enormous weight, and top consulting firms do recruit there, so getting interviews is very realistic if you build the right resume and prepare well. Its alumni network is exceptionally strong, but it is spread across a wider mix of fields, so the consulting pipeline can feel less concentrated than Duke’s.

For landing interviews specifically, Duke may offer a slight practical edge because consulting is such an established undergraduate outcome there. For landing offers, the difference is smaller, since once you get in the process, case interview performance, internships, leadership, and communication matter more than the school name alone. Duke has the more direct consulting machine, while Yale offers comparable top-end outcomes for students who are proactive and want a broader undergraduate culture outside of heavy recruiting.
