Which is better for business: Tulane University or University of Richmond?

For business, Tulane tends to stand out more if you want a school with a bigger business presence and especially good access to internships tied to a major city. Its A. B. Freeman School of Business is a central part of the university, and being in New Orleans gives students direct exposure to finance, entrepreneurship, hospitality, real estate, and consulting opportunities during the school year.

Tulane often fits the student who wants a more outward-facing business experience. If you like the idea of studying business in a city, building connections early, and having a campus culture with a lot of energy and school spirit, Tulane has an edge. It is especially appealing for students interested in entrepreneurial projects, business with a civic or global angle, and internships that can happen alongside classes rather than only in the summer.

Richmond makes more sense for the student who wants a smaller, more intimate academic setting and close faculty access. The Robins School of Business is very well regarded, and Richmond has a strong reputation for undergraduate teaching. Students there often benefit from small classes, a polished preprofessional environment, and solid alumni connections, especially in the Mid-Atlantic and parts of the South.

Richmond can be a very smart choice if you value mentorship, a quieter campus feel, and a business program embedded in a liberal arts environment. It may be especially appealing if you are interested in finance, accounting, or management and want professors to know you well. The city of Richmond also has business access, but the scale and national visibility are not quite the same as Tulane’s overall business ecosystem.

On reputation and opportunities alone, I’d give Tulane a slight advantage for many business students because its location creates more obvious day-to-day opportunities. Richmond is compelling when your priority is personalized academics and a tighter campus community rather than breadth of business exposure.
