University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign vs Texas A&M for aerospace engineering: which is better for undergraduates?

I’m a high school senior trying to narrow down my college list, and I’m interested in aerospace engineering. Both UIUC and Texas A&M seem like strong options, but I’m having a hard time telling which one is the better choice for an undergraduate aerospace student.

I’m mostly trying to compare them based on the overall strength of the program and how well they prepare students for internships and jobs after graduation.

A&M can offer sheer volume of opportunities, while UIUC can feel especially attractive if you want strong academics plus the option to pivot into adjacent areas like mechanical engineering, controls, computing, or research-heavy work.

If the question is strictly which is better for undergraduate aerospace engineering, I’d give a narrow edge to Texas A&M for career preparation and industry-connected undergraduate outcomes, especially if you can see yourself working in Texas or in defense and aviation sectors tied to that region. I’d lean toward UIUC instead if you care more about overall engineering prestige, research depth, and flexibility across technical paths within and beyond aerospace.
