How does campus location differ between Harvard and Columbia for undergraduates?

Harvard gives you a more self-contained undergraduate environment, while Columbia puts you directly into New York City life every day. Harvard’s main undergraduate campus sits in Cambridge around Harvard Square, where classes, houses, libraries, cafes, and student spaces are concentrated in a walkable college-centered area. Columbia is in Morningside Heights in Manhattan, with a defined campus, but the city is immediately part of your daily routine because the subway, internships, restaurants, museums, and neighborhoods are right outside the gates.

At Harvard, daily life tends to feel more campus-focused. Undergraduates often move between the Yard, the Houses, and nearby Harvard Square, so the social scene is closely tied to the university itself. Cambridge and Boston add plenty to do, but you can live a very full student life without constantly leaving the Harvard bubble.
