Is NYU or Baruch better for finance careers?

I’m trying to decide between NYU and Baruch for finance and keep seeing people say both are good for different reasons.

I’m mainly interested in which school has the stronger path into finance careers and why, since I want to make the more practical choice for undergrad.

NYU has the stronger path into finance careers, especially if you are aiming for investment banking, high-finance roles, and the most structured recruiting pipelines. Stern is one of the best-known undergraduate business schools in the country, major finance employers recruit there very intentionally, and the alumni network in New York finance is exceptionally deep. Baruch is still a very solid option for finance, but it tends to shine more on value and access than on pure recruiting power.

The biggest differentiator is on-campus recruiting. At NYU, firms that hire analysts in banking, sales and trading, asset management, and consulting are very familiar with the school and often build recurring pipelines there. That matters because finance hiring is heavily relationship-driven, and being at a school where employers already expect to find candidates makes the path more direct.

The second differentiator is network density and brand in finance circles. NYU, and especially Stern, carries immediate recognition with employers, alumni, and student organizations tied to Wall Street recruiting. That does not mean a Baruch student cannot reach the same jobs, because some absolutely do, but at Baruch you are more likely to need to hustle harder through networking, internships, and self-directed outreach rather than plugging into a built-in machine.

The practical case for Baruch is cost. If the price gap is very large, Baruch can be the smarter financial decision because it places students into finance and accounting roles in New York and gives you access to the same city for internships during the school year. For careers like corporate finance, accounting, FP&A, commercial banking, and some front-office finance paths, Baruch can offer excellent return on investment.

For the strongest overall launch into top-tier finance recruiting, NYU comes out ahead. For a lower-cost route with real New York access and solid outcomes, Baruch remains a credible and often underrated choice.
