University of Washington vs Université Paris Cité for biology: which is better for an undergraduate student?

The biggest practical tradeoff is structure and access: the University of Washington gives undergraduates a more research-intensive U.S. environment with broad lab infrastructure and clearer pathways into faculty labs, while Université Paris Cité is likely to be much more affordable and places you in a strong European science setting, but undergraduate support and access can feel less personalized. For biology specifically, UW benefits from being tied to a major life sciences ecosystem in Seattle, including strong links to medicine, public health, genomics, and nearby research institutions. Université Paris Cité also has serious scientific strength, especially through its location in Paris and its connections to major French research networks, but the undergraduate experience is usually less centered on the individual student.

If your priority is learning biology in a way that leads quickly into hands-on research, UW has the edge. Its undergraduate biology program is well established, and students can branch into molecular, cellular, evolutionary, ecological, and interdisciplinary areas with a lot of course choice. I would put Université Paris Cité ahead only if cost is dramatically better for you, or if you specifically want to build your education and future network in France or the broader European system.
