Boston University vs University of Washington for data science: which is better for undergraduate outcomes?

I’m trying to decide between Boston University and University of Washington for data science as an undergrad.

I know both schools are strong, but I’m mostly looking at which one gives better opportunities for internships, research, and jobs after graduation in data science.

For undergraduate data science outcomes, University of Washington usually has the edge if you want to be plugged directly into a major tech hiring market and are comfortable with a more competitive, self-directed environment. Boston University is still a very solid option, but its advantage is more about flexibility, cross-disciplinary options, and a private-school setting in a city with lots of industry and research activity.

UW tends to fit students who want proximity to large tech companies and are excited by a campus culture where opportunities are abundant but not always handed to you. For research, UW has a particularly strong reputation in computing-adjacent work, and undergrads can benefit from the scale of ongoing projects across data, AI, health, and public-interest technology. For jobs after graduation, UW’s location and employer visibility are hard to ignore, especially for students targeting technical data roles. BU can absolutely lead to excellent outcomes too, but if the question is narrowly about undergraduate internships, research, and data-science job positioning, UW is the one I’d lean toward unless BU offers a noticeably better financial or academic fit.
