The biggest practical tradeoff is location and recruiting style: NYU gives you daily access to New York internships and a huge finance-business network during the school year, while WashU offers a more traditional campus experience with strong support and good outcomes, but fewer opportunities that are physically woven into everyday student life. For undergrad career opportunities specifically, NYU usually has the edge because being in Manhattan makes part-time internships, alumni events, and employer networking much easier to do early and often. WashU can still place students well, especially with strong grades and intentional networking, but the path is typically less immediate than at NYU.

At NYU Stern in particular, the brand is very visible in finance, banking, consulting, real estate, luxury, media, and many corporate roles tied to New York. Recruiters know the school well, and students can build experience during semesters instead of waiting mainly for summer. That matters because early internships often lead to stronger sophomore and junior recruiting options.

WashU’s business school is respected and its students do land strong jobs, but the national business pipeline is not as naturally concentrated around the campus as it is at NYU. The alumni network is loyal and helpful, yet NYU’s network is simply larger and more embedded in major business hubs, especially for Wall Street and adjacent industries. If your goal includes high-frequency exposure to employers, coffee chats, informational interviews, and in-semester work experience, NYU makes that easier.

One caveat is that NYU can feel more self-directed. You need to be proactive, organized, and comfortable navigating a city where opportunities are abundant but not handed to you. WashU may offer more hands-on structure and a tighter campus community, which can help some students perform better and recruit more confidently.

For pure undergrad career opportunity in business, I would lean NYU, especially if the NYU option is Stern. The combination of location, recruiting visibility, and alumni access is hard to match.
