Georgia Tech vs University of Chicago for STEM: which is better for undergrads?

I’m trying to narrow down my college list and keep bouncing between Georgia Tech and UChicago for STEM. I want a school where I can get a strong foundation in math/science and have solid opportunities for research or internships.

Both seem really strong, but in different ways, and I’m having trouble understanding which one is the better fit for an undergraduate STEM student.

For an undergraduate focused on STEM, the better choice depends less on which school is “stronger” and more on how you want to study. UChicago is also intense, but in a more intellectual, discussion-heavy, conceptually deep way. Students choosing between them are often really choosing between applied technical immersion and a more abstract, interdisciplinary form of rigor.

If your goal is undergraduate engineering, computer science in a strongly technical campus setting, or direct industry preparation, Georgia Tech is likely the clearer fit. If you want STEM within a broader, highly analytical liberal arts framework and are excited by theory as much as application, UChicago may match you better.
