William & Mary or UVA for campus culture?

They do feel noticeably different day to day. UVA tends to have a bigger, louder, more visibly social campus culture with stronger school spirit, a more prominent Greek scene, and more of a traditional big-university energy even though it is not a huge state school in the classic sense. William & Mary usually feels smaller, more close-knit, more understated socially, and more centered on tight friend groups, student organizations, and academically engaged communities rather than a highly visible campus-wide social scene.

UVA often appeals to students who want a busy social environment with lots happening at once. There is a strong sense of tradition, plenty of events, active student clubs, and a campus atmosphere where athletics and school pride are more noticeable in everyday life. Greek life is present and can shape parts of the social scene, especially for students who want that pathway, though it is far from the only way to find community.

William & Mary tends to fit students who like a more intimate campus where people know each other quickly and the social culture feels less performative. It is often described as collaborative, quirky, intellectually curious, and a little less image-conscious than UVA. Social life exists, but it is usually less centered on big parties and more around clubs, campus traditions, smaller gatherings, and niche communities.
