Rice is highly respected, especially in academic, professional, and graduate-school circles, but outside those circles it is more likely to be underrecognized simply because it is smaller and less publicly visible.

In terms of prestige, Columbia does have the edge overall in how the general public, many employers, and international audiences perceive it.
